Fantabulous Fridays part I: Cocktails!

Ramos Gin Fizz - kind of like drinking a bubble bath!

New Orleans is a city of cocktails.  We even have a cocktail festival!  There are lots of great bars that specialize in beautiful cocktails with fresh juices and house-made bitters.  I once had a whiskey sour (old school, I know – but I love them!) at BarTonique with a beautiful cherry all the way from Italy.  Not a fluorescent red maraschino from the grocery store!

Recently, I went out with a friend on a bit of a cocktail tour.   We enjoyed a cocktail and a long conversation at Cure and then one more cocktail and chat at the Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel.

At the Sazerac, I enjoyed a Ramos Gin Fizz, apparently one of Huey P. Long’s favorite drinks. Strangely sweet, slightly floral and super-foamy, this gin drink tasted (and looked!) a bit like bubble bath, but without the soapiness.

Tonight, my sweetheart and I are going out to dinner at Boucherie to celebrate our birthdays.  They have gorgeous small plates and I bet some beautiful cocktails too!  So that should make for a Fantabulous Friday for sure! We’ll be home by the time this posts – I’ve set it to publish later tonight.  I don’t know – do you think anyone stakes out my blog so they can come to my house and take the TV?  I doubt it – They’ll be disappointed anyway – it’s not a flat screen.

Enjoy the slides!

  1. The Sazerac has always been one of my favorite upscale bars in NOLA. (On of my favorite cocktails, too, especially when made with Rye.)

The Roosevelt Hotel is a beautiful venue for a cocktail! Happy Birthday to you both. Cheers.

Enjoy your time out… never had one of those. Not a big cocktail girl but love reading the names and colorful mixes. 🙂
